I love anything retro. I especially love retro style toy kitchens for kids! They can pretend to be top chefs while making pretend dishes using its many fun features. Toy kitchens like this one (if properly maintained) can be handed down for generations! I’m sure you all remember having one as a kid. This past week here in Northern Michigan we’ve had some warm weather, so my kids and I were outside and almost-sort-of-kind-of believing that we may have seen the last snowfall of the winter. They were enjoying playing in the little house at the top of their swing set, which is similar to a tree house (but without the tree). But, alas, Mother Nature was toying with us and will be dumping quite a bit of snow on us over the next week. Which brings me to today’s featured toy: The Plan Toys Wooden Tree House .

Today’s featured natural toy is the Haba Magnifying Glass . We love this toy, so we were surprised to see that Haba discontinued it after 2008, but we’re glad that we still have quite a few in stock! This is a beautiful magnifying glass with a blue wooden fame and a flecked red rope so it can be worn around the child’s neck as he explores. Featured Toy: Haba Magnifying Glass
My family and I recently visited the Public Museum in Grand Rapids, Michigan. They have a lot of their exhibits organized through the alphabet. For example, J is for Japan (a family favorite of ours), Z is for Zoology, and T is for Toys. When I came across that last one, I immediately thought of Hazelnut Kids . They had many classic toys displayed, such as an original teddy bear and Tinkertoys. After taking a stroll down memory lane, I couldn’t help but think how proud I was to be a part of a business that carries “Museum quality” toys. I could picture any number of our wooden toys or Kathe Kruse dolls , for example, in that case. In this day and age, where we have allowed the market to be consumed by disposable toys, it is nice to know we can still have the heirloom quality toys that we grew up with. That’s exactly what Hazelnut Kids provides us with! I can tell you right now, my childrens’ toys from Hazelnut Kids won’t end up in the trash. You vibe, me vibe, WE VIBE! The We Vibe is a funny looking adult toy that has developed a huge following since it was released. This weekend we drove to Indianapolis to attend the North American Handmade Bike show (which means I win the wife of the year award). Mark was in heaven and spent the 3 plus hours walking around with a huge nerd grin on his face, I mostly walked around remarking that bike guys certainly know how to cultivate the funkiest of bodily odors (pooooooo) It was kinda fun for me to see the similarities between a bike show and a craft show though… I suppose it just depends on what you are into, chrome bags and handmade bikes or screen printed tee shirts and handmade 2d toys.

These are the cutest dolls ever! Ty Inc. (who makes the oh-so adorable Beanie Babies we all know and love) has released two new dolls “Sweet Sasha” and “Marvelous Malia” as part of their TyGirlz Collection. After just seeing a picture of the dolls I thought to myself: “They captured their pretty almond eyes nicely, but I think they should have made Sasha a bit smaller than Malia.” BUT, supposedly they aren’t supposed to be dolls created to look exactly like Barak Obama’s daughters. Ty just used their lovely names as inspiration.
