The Lil’ Roasters

Browsing around on Etsy the other day I saw these cute egg cups From the Peacock and the Pearl .  I  knew instantly what I would do with them if I had them so after hmmmming and hawing for a bit I made the purchase.   And here they are now……… I LOVE these guys so much I have become obsessed with finding more feet egg cups,  which has become a quest of Arthurian measure as so far none that I have seen are really quite right,  either the feet are too big or too small or the wrong colour or not as nice as these ones,  so far none have been just right………maybe my name should be Goldilocks? Anyway for the moment I only have two chickens and 2 turkeys and I will of course add them to the shop

Mwah, ha, ha………

booooooo…. Did my lil’ Halloween ghosties scare you?   They hope so,  trouble is they are just too cute to be terrifying……poor guys.  I made the ghosties for my batch of Octoberie goodies I’m working on in preparation for my fall show,  I still have a few more ideas I want to work on but I am starting to feel good about my quantities of  Autumnal offerings and I will of course add them to the shop today. This past weekend we went to Chicago for the Renegade craft fair.  I was incredibly excited about this years show as one of the new vendors was someone who’s work I fell in love with about a year ago when  I purchased some of his comic books at Quimby’s (a fantastic comic book store in Chicago).  Anyway his name is Matthew Reidsma and he is awesome,  so of course within 5 seconds of finding his booth I had pretty much blown my Renegade shopping money,  but the original artwork I got is so super cool I’m sure I will be gushing about him for a long time to come

4 things I learned this past weekend…..

1.  I really hate camping. Oh sure the barbecuing outdoors and looking at the stars late at night are terrific fun……….but the sleeping in the tent in the dark woods with no running water,   and is that rain?  why yes it is………not so much……..and don’t get me started on the porta potties 2.  Grown men in lycra stops being funny and starts to get icky after about 5 minutes. I don’t think I need to say anything more really…….

July, July, July……

how I love thee………for numerous reasons too,  not just because you are my birth month  (although that is a pretty awesome reason).  But also because so much cool schtuff happens during your wonderous 31 days.   For instance Art fair On and Off  the square in Madison was this past weekend and that is one of my very  favourite things in Madison (another is Maxwell Street days but that’s next weekend).  There is nothing better than perusing the work of over 650 artists whilst enjoying the street performers and location……. Not the best piccie I grant you,  but in my defense it was bloomin’ roastin’ last weekend and so this was taken whilst enjoying some shade under a giant oak tree and I did take better pictures last year if you want to look at them.  I met up with my crafting  buddy Ekra who bought this cool painting by Keith Grace It’s called Mad Cat and it’s body is made up of the Madison area map….

Hooray for…..

Summer!!!!!   Yaaaaay can you feel it?  It’s finally here and it’s fabulous!!!! Further proof of it’s arrival the beautiful blooms on my balcony.  I decided to go for an Alice in wonderland themed floral display this year,  I absolutely fell in love with the Canterbury bells (in the large white pot) at the Madison’s farmers market and I am pleased that they appear to be happy with their new location……they are  just so beautiful,  look for yourself They make me want to sip tea from them in an imaginary tea cup kind of way. Also hooray for Hollywood,  or well my piccie of the Hollywood sign at least as it made the schmap guide for LA ( check out the little box with the images in the right hand corner)

I solemnly swear that I am up to no good……

nah not really.  It’s just I’m in a little bit of a potter frenzy these days,  you see we finally made it to the Harry Potter exhibition at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago  this past weekend…….and eeeeeeeek it was great The museum really did a top notch job at presenting all the film props,  they even hired a whole bunch of British people to tell the stories of the artifacts which definitely added to the fun.  We managed to illicit a few stolen iphone pics inside the exhibit but my hubby still hasn’t downloaded them…..haruuuuumph,  I think he’s afraid I’ll post the piccie of him and buckbeak. And more proof I have been good really?  hmmmm,  well then let me share my 2 newest critters. Tommy the little torro and Winston the bulldog,  both inspired by my recent vacation.   I guess i want to make a critter for my Scottish trip but I need to order wool………dontcha just hate when that happens?  i just know he’s going to be rattling around in my brain till I finally do make him

Did you miss me?

cos I missed you!!! But I have had the most fantastic 6 weeks……….ever!!!!    First of all I was in the UK  for Easter so I got to see the new Wallace and Gromit special on the telly……yippppeee (which was a completley happenstance incident as I had no idea at the time) and then I saw lots of awesomeness in the shops How cool is the toast rack?  I mean it’s just a shame it was all so fragile looking.  Although I did manage to procure some less breakable goodies……yaaaaaaaay. and then my 2 weeks in Spain flew by in a whirl of beautiful sunshine,  great food (god how I love anchovies in vinagre)  and fun day trips with the folks. above is one of the Mijas taxis a little burro than you can ride around town,  I did this when I was a kid but I’d feel a little sorry for the donkey that had to cart me around now….

Yup so here it is my 2 year blog aversary,  which means I’m giving you guys the chance to win a little gift from me A cute little peeper,  a rose and a pair of hairclips………you likeeeee? Anyway my blogaversary  set my mind to thinking of birthday parties, high teas and all things fun.  You know if I could pick the perfect dining/party guests living or dead  I’d pick Lewis Carrol (writer of Alice in wonderland),  L.

Easter peepers and schtuff

Last Saturday we headed into Madison and I got some fantastic hand painted roving from the knitting tree .  Now I am notorious for falling in love with wacky roving then either not using it for fear of not having enough to finish a project (it’s near impossible to get the same colours ever again) or just not having a clue how to use it to its advantage…… and so it sits unused in my rather large collection of wool a rather expensive testament at my serious lack of imagination.  But can you blame me for having to purchase this time? How pretty is that?  I think the woman in the store was rather disappointed to hear I wasn’t going to spin it and instead turn it into Easter Peepers I really love how he turned out….

bun buns and bikes

This weekend we drove to Indianapolis to attend the North American Handmade Bike show (which means I win the wife of the year award).  Mark was in heaven and spent the 3 plus hours walking around with a huge nerd grin on his face,  I mostly walked around remarking that bike guys certainly know how to cultivate the funkiest of bodily odors (pooooooo) It was kinda fun for me to see the similarities between a bike show and a craft show though… I suppose it just depends on what you are into,  chrome bags and handmade bikes or screen printed tee shirts and handmade 2d toys.

No More Junk Toys!

Holiday season fanfare has already begun, and I am reminded of my holiday motto: No more junk toys! Whether you celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, and/or the Winter Solstice, if you have children, you know what junk toys are. Junk toys are toys that will have little educational value, are usually made of plastic, are overly commercial, and end up in our landfills. Green parents often try to make these toys disappear, but it is better to prevent their buying and giving in the first place.

Rid Yourself of Unwanted Catalogues

A new website is offering consumers an easy way to get rid of unwanted catalogues. With the holiday season approaching, my mailbox has become inundated with catalogues for every product under the sun. Previously, I have sent individual letters to each company, as well as signed up for services that were supposed to stop the catalogues from coming; however, the effects of all these efforts has worn off, and new ones are arriving daily.

See and Spell Puzzles Teach Children

Melissa and Doug See and Spell is a wooden puzzle in which children select letters that fit into recessed spots to spell the word that matches the picture on each wooden “card”. When evaluating my preschool learning environment, one thing that was required but missing were puzzles that spell words. Melissa and Doug See and Spell filled this void in my preK environment

Child Size Cleaning Tools Encourages Children to Help with Household Chores

Any toy that can encourage a child to help with household chores is a good toy in my opinion. Add quality wooden construction, and I am sold! Magic Cabin offers a Child’s Cleaning Set that contains real cleaning tools. The set includes a metal dustpan and broom, string mop, and a broom; all child-sized! We have had the Child’s Cleaning Set in my preschool classroom for four years now, and it continues to be one of the most popular play items.
