Tonner Doll Company’s 2010 Annual Convention in Lombard, IL

The theme of this Tonner convention is “The Sun, The Moon and The Stars.” It will celebrate the fashion and pop culture influences in Robert Tonner’s doll designs. Sounds fabulous, doesn’t it? I am not at the convention, unfortunately, but I am following it on the Tonner convention blog and through friends

Picture of the Week Award ~ May 9, 2010 ~ Laura Bigger

My featured photograph this week was made by my dear friend Laura Bigger, also known as Laura/LA. Using her Nikon D90 on a tripod in natural ligh, she presents us with an image straight out of a fashion magazine. Everything works together in this photo: the directional lighting, the composition, the limited color palette

Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Dark-Hunter Dolls from Ashton Drake

I don’t have any familiarity with the Dark-Hunter series at all. I’m guessing they hunt vampires and I like vampires so there you go. The artists over at Integrity Toys (who could that be?) have designed these dolls but AD is handling the distribution

Picture of the Week Award ~ Christina Goodison – Shuga Shug

The latest Fashion Royalty doll, Flame Blue Vanessa, that’s been causing rending of garments and begging, is beginning to arrive at collectors’ homes and Christina, often first on the scene, has posted several gorgeous shots of Vanessa. (Is that a run-on sentence?) This is the same doll as in my previous post

It’s Alive aka Contains Limited Edition Mold

No, I’m not talking about Frankenstein’s monster tonight but I do feel as if I’ve been reading a scary book. I may be the last to know but there’s mold in them there hills and on some of the Real Estate Agnes dolls. The dolls may have been boxed with damp hair

Modern miniature furniture in New York Times

For all of you who, like me, love to look at (or even aquire) modern furniture for their dolls, here is an article in the New York Times about them. I resent the implication that people who collect stuff like that are eccentric and weird – it is the only thing that marred this article for me.

This is a Tonner doll named Hypnotic Antoinette. James Griffen, aka Paradise Blue on the doll boards, has captured her beauty in this photograph. He repainted her eye-makeup and liner, deepened the shade of her lips and glossed them using Golden Fluid Acrylic paints and then sealed his work with “Golden Varnish”.

Great Pretender Lillith and Perk Colette Nu-Face Dolls

I was sure that I wasn’t going to purchase more NuFace dolls; My intention was to concentrate on the more sophisticated dolls and fashions but when I saw these two, I ordered. I am very, very pleased with them and their garments. My introduction to Lillith was with the convention set of the twins Lillith and Eden.

Is it the economy or are the dolls just unpopular?

It seems that I’ve been asking this question on and off for almost two years regarding the prices consumers are willing to pay for certain dolls. This week it’s a buyers’ market when it comes to Integrity’s Gene Marshall line and several Fashion Royalty/NuFace dolls. I have never, in my years of collecting Fashion Royalty dolls, seen an established dealer selling FR dolls at a discounted price.
