Figabulary

The other night whilst working late in the Toypedia offices doing research, I heard a rustling in the garbage bin. Fearing the worst, I crept over and dumped it with my foot. To my utter shock and bewilderment, a little, chubby red fellow tumbled out with the contents.

Best Practices : Have a Vision (1)

A comment by a friend mentioned that while there is a lot of information out there on how not to run a successful game store, there really isn’t much information on how to do it right.  I think there are a number of reasons why we don’t discuss the best practices. Firstly, many of us don’t want to turn our blogs into business management blogs so we avoid discussing the nitty gritty how-to’s; secondly, since all businesses are unique to some extent, it’s the unique (read – headache inducing) problems that we see.  Thirdly, there’s some hesitation of giving away information to competitors that might (unlikely but possibly) just put ourselves out of business.  Lastly, it’s a bit of risk – after all, even if you do everything right, sometimes businesses just fail and we don’t want to be blamed for it! All that said, we’ve decided to start a new series of best practices.

Flashing Light Up Glasses Light Up Night Parties

For LED light up and chemical glow products, there are over a hundred designs and each design comes in all the common popular colors. Some designs are just for fun and some are useful houseware.  There are light up toys for kids such as flashing sunglasses , swords, balls, animals etc.  Also they are flashing centerpieces, barware, glasses, flameless candles for adults.  The LED lights are miniature but they are very bright lights.  When they are embedded in acrylic glasses, light up glasses are created.  By searching online, one can find flashing martini glasses, led champagne flutes, light up beer mugs and so on.  Even coasters and serving trays with flashing function are available.  With flashing sunglasses and glow sticks products, your party will be glowing with excitement.  People of all ages will be entertained.   Light up glasses are used at company conferences, weddings etc. and they will bring nothing but excitement.  They are mostly individually packed.    Having a family-friendly party at night and want to entertain your guests

Canadian Joe Con is imminent!

Originally published at Shortpacked! . Please leave any comments there. Hey, dudes, I am totally in Canada right now.  The wifi here kinda isn’t, and so I’m just on one of the lobby terminals.  They let me have 45 minutes online for free!  Hooray! I got to see the Canadian Joe Convention dealer room setup this evening, and I really shouldn’t have, because I remembered that I’m short a lot of Destros and they kind of have them.  Uh oh.  Also, woo, one table has a big pile of Funskool stuff, and that tickles me.  Tomorrow morning I’ll get my booth set up and then start saying hello to you folks.

Bugs & Spaces – The Complexity of Running an Online Store

Once again, there is a bug in the site.  Sometimes, it seems like every few months we come across a new one – and the truth is, that’s what it is.  Running an online store with ecommerce software isn’t an easy job on the IT side; especially if you’re attempting to improve the store as you go along. The Complexity E-commerce stores have to be hosted; think the building a retail store would rent from, and the orders and stock count run from an ecommerce software.  So think of it as the actual physical space (i.e. the store).  Now, the CSS and HTML of a site dictate it’s physical appearance (i.e.

Wow………when did that happen?  I’m shocked,  time it really does fly by……. I can’t believe tomorrow the Crafter’s Round up is finally here,  I’ve been stabbying like crazy for weeks in preparation for it and now I’m finally starting to feel like I might not have a half empty table after all……….phew,  that’s a relief (although I’m not sure at this point what I would do  if I wasn’t feeling ok ) So remember if you are in the Chicago area to come on by to Chase Park and say hi to the critters this weekend.

Capital, Growth & Control

Recently reading an article about the state of Italy and the Italian businessman, I was struck by a sentence.  Paraphrased, it discussed how Italian entrepreneurs were more concerned about control than growth.  It certainly struck me as something that I have experienced running the business as well. To grow, you generally require capital.  There are 2 ways to generate capital – investment in the business and profits (i.e. organic growth).  The 2nd method, organic growth is generally quite slow – if you only make 3 – 5% of 200,000 in profit, you’re only looking at $6 – 10,000 a year.  Of which a certain percentage is going to be taxed.
